After having made its mark in Hong Kong, China, and most of Southeast Asia including Malaysia, Hong Kong’s Lalamove made the decision to enter the Indian market in the last year and has officially begun operation in the last few months. Currently, the company provides services in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Pune.
Lalamove started out as EasyVan in 2013 which utilized vans for deliveries, but with the expansion into the rest of Asia, the rebranded Lalamove now focuses on B2B deliveries in the logistics industry, with businesses and corporations as its primary target market. The company utilizes delivery vehicles ranging from motorcycles to light duty trucks, and the types involved in operation are largely contingent on the region. Currently Lalamove’s fleet in India includes not just motorcycles and trucks but auto rickshaws as well.
Lalamove was first of its kind to provide e-hailing services for deliveries in the logistics industry. Users can easily navigate through their mobile app that operates on Google Maps API for navigation and tracking. The vehicle brands depend on what the employed driver personally uses, similar to Uber and GrabCar. The logistics market in India has employed more than 22 million people as of 2019 and is expected to be the sector providing the most job opportunities for citizens by the year 2022.
