Held at the Sunway Hotel Resort and Spa on 19th November 2019, the National Dual Training System (SLDN) Program of the ISUZU Technical School (ITS) observed their annual Convocation Ceremony in its fourth year. As a joint effort between ISUZU Malaysia and the Ministry of Human Resources (KSM)–namely the Department of Skills Development (JPK) - the SLDN program was launched in 2016 to further promote the development of the nation’s skilled workforce, as well as further driving the nation’s economy by meeting the market demands of ISUZU’s aftersales services for valued customers.

Speaking at the event were Mr Koji Nakamura and Mr Mitsuo Moto, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, respectively, of ISUZU Malaysia, along with Mr Haji Roslan bin Salim, Deputy Director of JPK. During his speech, Nakamura was beaming with pride and stated how, through this program, ISUZU is happy to be “contributing to the nation’s growth through the development of human capital.”

With a total of 21 graduates over the span of four years, Mr Andrew A/L Devadas, Head of Training & Skill Development at ISUZU Malaysia, was proud to inform Asian Trucker that the program received approval from the government to increase its annual student intake from 5 to 10 persons, as of 2019. With that, the SLDN Program saw its largest batch this year, with seven promising students graduating with a Malaysian Certificate of Excellence – Level II in Services and Maintenance of Commercial Vehicles.

To make 2019 an even more auspicious year for ISUZU Malaysia, a second On-Job Training (OJT) Center was set up as an in-house facility at ISUZU Service Center Sdn Bhd in Shah Alam, operating alongside the existing OJT center at Automotive Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd (ACM) in Batu Caves. In his speech, Andrew also recounted the exciting progress of how the students blossomed from inexperienced apprentices into skilled and well-trained mechanics, further stating that he was confident these seven graduates are “more than capable to handle our customers’ vehicles and will be a valuable asset to our ISUZU family.”

This graduation event thus marked the beginning of the graduates’ careers after eight productive months of training, with them having already been appointed to ISUZU service centers in their respective hometowns. Andrew Harrison anak Augustine, recipient of the Best Student Award, told Asian Trucker that he was very proud to have won the title and will continue to improve his skills in the automotive industry.
