Scan Global Logistics launched first electric truck service between Malaysia and Singapore.

Scan Global Logistics (SGL) in collaboration with its strategic partner, has unveiled the first of its kind 100 percent electric truck providing full-truckload and less-than-truckload service between Malaysia and Singapore. The event took place in the Lava Mansion, Penang, on 10th July 2024 in the presence of Penang Chief Minister and over 100 distinguished guests, Scan Global is proud to be offering this new solution as it demonstrates SGL’s commitment to sustainability and is a major step towards decarbonization for the industry.

According to Alan Ong, Head of Road Freight, Asia Regional, Scan Global Logistics, the company is extremely dedicated to investing energy, time, and resources into decarbonized the supply chains of the future. In a world where the transport sector is the largest single contributor to global carbon emissions, SGL recognizes and understands our shared responsibility in contributing to actively solving this critical issue.

Whilst committing to cutting their own emissions by 50 percent by the year 2030, and achieving net zero by 2050, SGL is also a proud member of the ‘Exponential Roadmap Initiative’ and subscribes to the ‘Science Based Targets’ Initiative. “We believe in holding ourselves accountable whilst also providing green solutions and services to our clients,” Ong stated.

SGL’s latest product launch within their global sustainability portfolio is a truly unique and first of its kind cross border Electric Vehicle trucking solution at this moment. The new service is being setup jointly with SGL’s carrier partner and will likely save around 250 tons of Co2e emissions annually running the service daily, between Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Singapore.

“It may be surprising to hear that for a border that handles around 300-400 tons of freight per day, currently no such EV solution exists, therefore we are extremely pleased and proud to be leading the way,” Ong said further. The actual product offers both FTL and LTL options to customers. Across the 350 Km routing, noise pollution will also be significantly reduced, and it can be expected that general operating costs will likely also be lowered in the long term.

Alongside our latest sustainable form of transport, SGL is also able to provide an independently audited and certified Co2e report that will demonstrate in raw data format customers’ emissions savings. SGL has an end-to-end reduction concept in place where the company will work hand in hand with customers to be able to identify, target and implement reductions. This cross-border EV product is just one piece of the wider sustainability jigsaw puzzle that SGL focuses on.
