MAN Malaysia Showcases Highest ADR-spec Trucks in First-ever Industry Specific Gathering for Oil and Gas Industry
MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia) showcased two units of its MAN TGS Trucks with the highest ADR Class EX/II and EX/III (with certification) specifications at a recent gathering for transporters involved in the oil and gas industry, body builders, partners and government agencies.
ADR or “Accord Dangereux Routier” is French for “European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road” and the standard that governs the transportation of dangerous goods by road.
Unlike the majority of ADR trucks in the Malaysian market that are mostly only compliant up to FL Class (equipped to carry flamable liquids), MAN Malaysia has equipped its proven and market-leading Euro V-powered MAN TGS ADR Truck variant with Class EX/II and EX/III specifications as standard which means that the vehicles are certified fit to transport even explosive materials or objects with explosive substances.
MAN Malaysia Managing Director Andrew O’Brooks said that company’s decision to offer its MAN TGS ADR Truck variant with the highest level of safety features reflected its commitment as a responsbile truck manufacturer and to ensure ultimate safety for drivers, businesses and the public in the course of transporting dangerous cargo.
Euro V-powered MAN TGS ADR Trucks are built with total safety in mind. Key passive safety features include a driver’s airbag and integrated three-point seat belt with tensioners as standard; emergency power cut-off switches inside and outside the cabin; aluminium instead of steel wheels to reduce weight and friction; and an earth-return system whereby there is no earth cable connected to the chassis to prevent electrocution. Even in standard MAN Truck variants, wire harneses are encased in fire protective material.
Active safety comes from the proprietary MAN BrakeMatic® electronic brake management system that consolidates and coordinates the actions of the service brake, its control systems and the continuous braking systems when the brake pedal is depressed to prevent jackknifing and keep the truck strictly in line.
MAN TGS ADR Trucks are also fitted with advanced driver assistance systems or ADAS such as Lane Guard System (LGS) with Lane Departure Warning to prevent unintended lane change; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that intervenes automatically to continuously maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
Electronic Stabiity Programme (ESP) that prevents understeering, oversteering, rollovers and overturns; and second-generation Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) that activates automatic braking to prevent impending collisions.
