World première for 4x4 version of Iveco New Eurocargo, “International Truck of the Year 2016”, at BAUMA 2016

Iveco joined CASE Construction Equipment at the BAUMA 2016 exhibition, one of the world’s most important trade shows for the Construction industry, to present the New Eurocargo 4x4 truck and showcases its full range of vehicles for the sector.

Iveco took part in BAUMA 2016, a leading exhibition for Construction, Building Material and Mining Machines and Construction Vehicles and Equipment, where it displayed four key products developed for construction businesses: the New Eurocargo 4x4 on its first public appearance, the new Daily 4x4 steel 3-lateral tipper, the Trakker 6x6 3-lateral tipper and the Astra HD9 8x6 rear tipper.

For the second time Iveco teamed up with sister brand CASE Construction Equipment at a major trade show to showcase their complementary offerings for the industry on the CASE stand FM.713/3.

New Eurocargo 4x4: European debut
In the medium-weight segment Iveco was showing the new 15-ton Eurocargo 4x4 displayed in the Infrastructure area of the CASE stand. This vehicle too belongs to a product family that has been very well received in the industry, having won the coveted title of “International Truck of the Year 2016”.

The New Eurocargo 4x4 is designed for the most demanding off-road work and is a good solution for construction and urban jobsites. It is available with a day or sleeper cab with standard roof. It has a gross vehicle weight of 11.5 or 15 tons and a range of wheelbases measuring from 3,240 to 4,150 mm.

It runs a Tector 7 engine in 220 and 250 HP variants on the 11.5-ton version, and 250 and 280 HP variants on the 15-ton version. It is the only Euro VI medium range vehicle to meet emissions standards with a single anti-emission system, the hi-SCR system with passive Diesel Particulate Filter.

The New Eurocargo 4x4 incorporates several protections for off-road driving such as steel bumpers, retractable access steps and a specific radiator guard. It features a front towing jaw and is available with PTO. The ZF six-speed manual gearboxes feature a servoshift system for easy gear changing even in the most demanding work conditions. Permanent four-wheel drive is provided by a longitudinal differential, which distributes torque between the front and rear axles. It is possible to select a fast or slow distributor ratio according to conditions (on / off road). In addition, three diff locks guarantee traction even in low-grip conditions. The exceptionally narrow steering angle ranging from 40 to 48 degrees, depending on the tyres, mean the Eurocargo is just as comfortable in urban sites as it is off-road.

New Daily 4x4: geared up for off-road
Following the New Daily’s great success as winner of the prestigious “International Van of the Year 2015” award, Iveco launched the New Daily 4x4. This vehicle is geared up for off road, for all tracks, for all conditions: on construction sites, for building and maintenance companies up to the highest altitudes. Its strength and durability are unrivalled in its class, thanks to its special off-road chassis. Indeed one of its key strengths is the C-section ladder frame chassis, which has always been typical of the Daily range, enabling the easiest body customisation and guaranteeing robust performance in all missions.

It runs a 4-cylinder, 3-litre F1C EuroVI heavy-duty common rail engine that develops a maximum power of 170 hp (125 kW) with a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The six-speed overdrive gearbox is coupled with the central transfer box with four low ranges in order to obtain 24 ratios. Thanks to its three differential locks, the New Daily 4x4 is able to tackle any slope and is capable of handling the most severe terrain, without any compromises as regards driving comfort. The vehicle is well suited to all types of missions, with a vast choice of PTOs available on the gearbox and the central transfer box, compatibility with on-road as well as off-road tyres, and the ability to front-mount other accessories like winches and snowploughs.

The New Daily is available in two versions, a single cab with two wheelbases (a short 3,050 mm variant and long 3,400 mm variant), and a crew cab with a 3,400 mm wheelbase, which can transport a crew of seven people.

Would you like an association with that?

With a the new trend of food trucks emerging the need for self-regulation also arises. The Mobile Food Truck & Street Food Association aims to ensure high operating standards.

A global phenomenon, food trucks have won the hearts of people looking for a different experience and convenience when it comes to having their lunch, dinner or a snack. However, as this industry is in its infant stages, there is a need for self-regulation to ensure that customers will get the best they could when they cue up for a meal. Joel Lee, Meal Box-er / Hon. Secretary shares some of his insights and what the association is trying to achieve.

“We now have 50 members, which is a great achievement, considering that we have only started our association in March,”
Lee said. There are, according to him, a lot of areas where work is needed. One of the key issues is that event organisers may think that they are offering a venue that will for food trucks that is worth charging for. “However, if you are imposing some RM 1 000 for a day, it is not worth for a food truck to go there,“ Lee explains. Naturally, you can only prepare a certain number of meals per hour and when you run out of stock, it is time to pack up and leave. Food truck operators are arguing that it is actually the other way around, with the food trucks adding fl avour to an event and shouldn’t be charged for the space. After all, if they were to operate elsewhere, they don’t have to factor in these fees.

Lee goes on to say that “The next issue is standards that we would want to impose. As with any restaurant, you expect it to be clean (Category A, Bersih). This is no different with a food truck, which deconstructed is simply a restaurant on wheels.” Mobile Food Truck & Street Food Association is aiming at introducing standards to ensure food safety and hygiene. “Just bear in mind that all you have to do is to buy a truck, have the back of it set up to be a kitchen and you are in business. You don’t need to be a chef in order to start this business. However, that also means you may not know about how to handle food stuffs properly.”

The third issue the Mobile Food Truck & Street Food Association concerns itself with is the communication with authorities such as DBKL. As with any new industry, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered, arrangements to be made and lobbying to be carried out. For example, certain areas of the Klang Valley may be very diffi cult to penetrate for food trucks as permits are not easy to get. “Why would that be the case? Our trucks wouldn’t take away customers from restaurants or Mamak stalls. On the contrary, we would create a different atmosphere and may even entice people to try new foods,” Lee reasons.

Among others, the association is also helping members to find business. When it comes to regular bookings or events such
as food truck carnivals, a lot of communication takes place in order to ensure that there are enough trucks present. Offering
an insight, Lee says “One advise we can give newcomers is very simple: Your food needs to be tried and tested. Don’t come up with something exotic that no one would want to even try or that is too complicated to eat. Ensure that you start in a location where you can actually meet the demand of patrons. There is nothing worse than running out of food because there are too many people flocking to your truck.” Lee can be contacted via This email address is being protected from spambots.

ZF Serves Mother Nature And Charitable Home

ZF SSM recently wrapped up a month-long automotive parts recycling charity programme, which combined both environmental and community components. The funds raised, amounting to RM10,000, was used to assist the Selangor Family Aid Association residents.

“Social responsibility is an integral part of ZF SSM’s corporate culture. To us, as a corporate citizen, it is our duty to contribute towards the well-being of the community. We are so humbled by this opportunity to make a difference, not only to the environment we live in, but also in the lives of the residents of the Selangor Family Aid Association,” said ZF SSM Managing Director, Mohd Syahrul Yusuf.

Launched in early October 2016, the recycling campaign is part of ZF SSM’s contribution to the community. The objective was to promote a greener environment by instilling the recycling habit within the automotive industry, particularly among spare part dealers. A total of nine spare part dealers came forward in full support to contribute their scrap metal for charity namely, YonMing Auto & Industrial Parts Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Selayang Muhibbah Sdn Bhd, Megamix Sdn Bhd, Rimbunan Kuasa Sdn Bhd, Klang Yew Huat Auto Parts Industries Sdn Bhd, Stuttgart Parts Centre Sdn Bhd, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Kai Yuan Auto Parts Sdn Bhd and Gee Hup Auto Supply Sdn Bhd.

ZF SSM successfully collected a total of 18,855 kilograms in old automotive parts and machines from the spare part dealers around the Klang Valley. The resulting scrap value amounting to RM 9,428 was combined with contributions from ZF SSM staff for a final total amounting to RM10,000. The contributions were then divided between settling the charity home’s outstanding utility bills and purchasing essentials requested by the home such as garbage bags, instant noodles, milk, rice, disposable cutlery and a food trolley.

The Selangor Family Aid Association, a welfare home for the aged and handicapped, shelters a total of 85 residents comprising of the aged and handicapped between the ages of 19 and 94 years. The home, which depends on donated funds from the public, was established in July 1988. Currently, the home has no sustainable funding.

“On behalf of the residents and administration, I thank ZF SSM for their kind assistance. Our home is often overlooked by potential donors because our application for tax exempt status
was unsuccessful. This contribution from ZF SSM is most appreciated as it helps us to cover our everyday basic necessities like food and utility bills,” said Selangor Family Aid Association
President, Dato’ Seri Pusparajah Gunaratnam. Continuing its role as a responsible corporate citizen, ZF SSM is determined to embark on biannual outreach campaigns with varying themes to instil a strong sense of community among its employees. Some of the past outreach programmes organised by ZF SSM included a visit to the Assunta Children Society in 2012 and relief efforts for the Kelantan flood victims in 2015. ZF SSM is also involved in ongoing efforts to help marginalised communities enjoy sustained daily meals.

Azizan, Faizal, Ana
Zana Firdaus, Roslan, Shamsani
季军:Afandy, Syahrizal, Noor Umor

—Roslan,
