There is no denying tyres are an important element of a truck but how many individuals know and practice proper tyre care? A well-maintained tyre not only helps prolong tyre lifetime but also decreases the risk of a safety hazard. We asked Bridgestone on some tips on tyre care and maintenance.
Consequences of poor tyre conditions:

- Cut, cord break
- Centre irregular wear occurs
- Reduced tyre life

B. Tread Depth
A worn tyre takes longer to brake on a wet road surface even when travelling at the same speed!
What can you do to ensure your tyres are in good condition?

A. Periodically conduct checks
- All tyres should have about the same inflation pressure
- Do a visual check if sidewalls have any cracks or bulges

B. Inspect thread wear bar on tyres
- For tyres that are in good condition, thread wear indicators are not exposed

C. Replace tyres when it is damaged or when becoming flushed with the tyre’s thread wear indicator
- Tyres may wear out depending on mileage, road conditions and user behaviour

In general, tyre rubber will usually become softer in warmer temperatures (like that in Malaysia) compared to colder temperatures, and the tyre’s inner pressure can change due to climate. However, climate is not the only factor that affects tyre usage. Regular tyre maintenance and proper driving style is essential to prolong the tyres’ lifespan. In addition, thread tyre pattern, thread depth, tyre pressure and inflation also plays a big role in maintain the tyre life.
