Safety starts before you start the engine. A daily inspection helps you find problems early, keep your vehicle roadworthy, and reduce accident risks.

What to Check Daily
Tyres
• Look for cuts, punctures, or bulges.
• Inflate to the correct pressure.
• Check tread depth, especially before wet weather driving.

Brakes

• Check brake pads for wear.
• Look for fluid leaks.
• For air brakes, listen for unusual noises when pressing the pedal.

Lights and Indicators

• Test headlights, brake lights, indicators, and hazard lights.
• Clean reflectors for better visibility.

Fluid Levels

• Check engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid.
• Look for leaks under the vehicle.

Windshield Wipers and Washer Fluid

• Ensure wipers are in good condition.
• Top up washer fluid.

Mirrors

• Clean and adjust all mirrors.
• For buses, confirm visibility of passengers and surroundings.

How to Conduct the Checks

• Spend a few minutes walking around your vehicle before starting your shift.
• Inspect each item in the list above.
• Report any faults immediately to prevent bigger problems.

Keeping Records

Daily inspections should always be recorded. Some operators use paper checklists kept in the cab, while others rely on digital apps that let drivers log faults instantly. Whichever method is used, records help ensure that issues are fixed quickly and provide proof that the vehicle was inspected before going on the road.

Daily checks are quick, but they protect your safety, your passengers, and your vehicle.
