Heat, humidity, and rain do not only slow down trucks, they also increase costs if not managed. Long-haul vehicles and fleet operators in Malaysia face both mechanical and operational challenges.

· Engines: Extra heat places stress on cooling systems.

· Batteries: Chemical breakdown is faster in hot climates.

· Tyres: Pressure increases in hot weather, while worn treads struggle in heavy rain.

· Loads and routes: Floods and detours disrupt schedules, forcing delays.

· Corrosion: Constant exposure to water and high humidity eats into undercarriages and chassis frames if left untreated.

What to Do

· Keep cooling systems clean, coolant levels checked, and service intervals tight.

· Inspect and clean battery terminals, and replace weak units before breakdown.

· Rotate and replace tyres in line with climate demands.

· Protect underbodies with anti-rust coatings, and wash regularly after wet runs.

· Use weather forecasts to plan routes and avoid flooded areas.
