The figure that we have expressed as 6.5 is the result of the operations we have carried out by focusing on 5-6 countries only. If we can increase the number of countries, we achieve a much stronger growth.”

This is a very significant success.” Karsan CEO Okan Baş stated, “2022 was actually the first year when we, as a whole team, appeared in the market with our entire product range. For us, it was the year to sow. We started to reap the fruits, but in fact, we are a new brand in Europe as Karsan. We are firstly targeting Europe, then North America. Our goal we have determined for Europe is to double our electric vehicle sales and increase our market share. In Luxembourg, we became the leader of the market in 2022. We have the largest electric bus parks in Portugal and Romania. In France, on the other hand, one of the largest markets of Europe, we completed 2022 by taking the third place in the electric public transport market. We also want to enter new markets after European and North American markets. Accordingly, we signed a very important agreement last month. Karsan is entering the Japanese market with e-JEST. What excites us is that this product has been attracting customers. Being successful in the right-hand drive Japanese market is very valuable. This will also be an opportunity for us to enter other right-hand drive markets. In this direction, our work regarding the UK and Indonesia is also ongoing. We want to make Karsan a global brand in public transportation. We're moving in that direction. We consider this year as a very important step in expanding our playground to the entire world.”

Making a Case for Premium Tyres

Black. Round. Vital for trucks: tyres. One of the two biggest cost positions in any transport operation besides fuel, tyres are under constant pressure to perform. Product offerings are abundant, ranging from retreaded to brand new, from cheap to ultra-premium. There is a good reason thought why one should opt for premium tyres, as Mr Alvin K L Teo of Teoh Company Logistics (M) Sdn Bhd had to find out the hard way.

Sourcing overseas, he found a tyre supplier that promised a good deal. Considering his fleet being 70-strong, he opted for a bulk order, stuffing an entire container with tyres. Sure to have struck a good deal he immediately fitted them upon arrival. Only then he found out that a good 20 percent of the tyres were not usable right away or faulty to the point that they could not be used at all. Those that could be salvaged had to undergo extensive balancing in order to make them work. “I realised that the extra work we had to invest in sorting and fixing the tyres, along with the wastage of tyres that could not be used, added to the cost of the shipment and trip, have made this a rather expensive experiment. This, we would not do again,” Teo told Asian Trucker.

To ensure that his (expensive) tyres are safe and perform, Teo took a more technical approach. Upon the recommendation of Allegiance Malaysia’s Mr Lee, Teo decided to try the Wabco system for a batch of new trucks and trailers. Through the use of this add-on, transporters are able to improve tyre performance by up to 30 percent. Teo opines that tyre management should not be left to the drivers as they have different priorities. What he found is that the EBS also helps to prevent tyres to become unbalanced due to heavy breaking, causing uneven wear of a tyre, thus protecting other components as well. “Whenever trucks go downhill, this feature is a real big help, especially, when the trucks are fully loaded.”

Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo 2024 - Strong Support from Industry

The Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Exhibition will be back for its sixth instalment in 2024. Held 9 to 11 May, the event will be hosted again in MIECC (Malaysia International Exhibtion and Convention Centre). The floor space of 8 500 square meters indoors has been filling rapidly since the announcement of a new floor plan with many of the previous exhibitors coming back.

Talking about the scheduled program, Organiser Stefan Pertz said that exhibitors and visitors can expect the usual fringe programme to be re-instated. "Obviously, we worked with constraints during our last show and the coming one will be under the paradigm of the post-pandemic ruling, which allows us to host our fringe programme again," he said.

Sponsorship opportunities are being snapped up already with MAN Truck & Bus Malaysia leading as the Gold Sponsor. Being a communications platform for the commercial vehicle industry in Southeast Asia, MCVE 2024 offers customisable sponsorships to cater to the individual needs of each participating brand.

The new floor plan is to facilitate a better flow throughout the exhibition while a new website, launched in January, is go offer a better user experience too. Better space utilisation offers more brands the opportunity to partake. The website is geared to giving participating brands more visibility.

Organisers expect that a number of updates will be posted shortly, keeping the market informed about the programme, participation and activities around the event.

Trak MAN TGS ADR berkuasa Euro V dibina dengan mengambil kira keselamatan sepenuhnya.

MAN Malaysia Showcases Highest ADR-spec Trucks in First-ever Industry Specific Gathering for Oil and Gas Industry

MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MAN Malaysia) showcased two units of its MAN TGS Trucks with the highest ADR Class EX/II and EX/III (with certification) specifications at a recent gathering for transporters involved in the oil and gas industry, body builders, partners and government agencies.

ADR or “Accord Dangereux Routier” is French for “European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road” and the standard that governs the transportation of dangerous goods by road.

Unlike the majority of ADR trucks in the Malaysian market that are mostly only compliant up to FL Class (equipped to carry flamable liquids),  MAN Malaysia has equipped its proven and market-leading Euro V-powered MAN TGS ADR Truck variant with Class EX/II and EX/III specifications as standard which means that the vehicles are certified fit to transport even explosive materials or objects with explosive substances.

MAN Malaysia Managing Director Andrew O’Brooks said that company’s decision to offer its MAN TGS ADR Truck variant with the highest level of safety features reflected its commitment as a responsbile truck manufacturer and to ensure ultimate safety for drivers, businesses and the public in the course of transporting dangerous cargo.

Euro V-powered MAN TGS ADR Trucks are built with total safety in mind. Key passive safety features include a driver’s airbag and integrated three-point seat belt with tensioners as standard; emergency power cut-off switches inside and outside the cabin; aluminium instead of steel wheels to reduce weight and friction; and an earth-return system whereby there is no earth cable connected to the chassis to prevent electrocution.  Even in standard  MAN Truck variants, wire harneses are encased in fire protective material.

Active safety comes from the proprietary MAN BrakeMatic® electronic brake management system that consolidates and coordinates the actions of the service brake, its control systems and the continuous braking systems when the brake pedal is depressed to prevent jackknifing and keep the truck strictly in line.

MAN TGS ADR Trucks are also fitted with advanced driver assistance systems or ADAS such as Lane Guard System (LGS) with Lane Departure Warning to prevent unintended lane change; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that intervenes automatically to continuously maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

Electronic Stabiity Programme (ESP) that prevents understeering, oversteering, rollovers and overturns; and second-generation Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) that activates automatic braking to prevent impending collisions.
